SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES

In 1981, he entered the full-time post-graduate course at the department of pharmacology of the Azerbaijan State Medical Institute, and in November 1982 he was sent to the V.V. Zakusov Scientific and Research Institute of Pharmacology of the USSR Academy of the Medical Sciences.

He successfully continued his scientific research at the Laboratory of Neurochemical Pharmacology of the Institute of Pharmacology under the supervision of Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor K.S. Rayevsky and prematurely completing his postgraduate studies, in 1985 he defended his master’s thesis on the “Role of Catecholaminergic and GABA-ergic Brain Systems in the Mechanism of Action of Psychostimulatory Mezocarb” and received the academic degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences.

After graduating from the post-graduate program, M. Ganiev returned to the department of pharmacology at the AMI, worked as a senior laboratory technician, assistant, associate professor. In 1992 he was sent to the doctoral program to the Scientific and Research Institute of Pharmacology of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Russia. Prematurely and successfully completing his doctoral studies, in 1994 he defended his doctoral thesis on the “Studying the dopaminergic mechanisms of atypical neuroleptics: neuropharmacological and neurochemical analysis”, received the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences. In the subsequent years, he continued his research and teaching activities at the Department of Pharmacology of the Azerbaijan Medical University.

Musa Ganiev is an author of more than 200 scientific and scientific-pedagogical articles, 14 textbooks, 13 training guides, 12 teaching aids and many inventions.

SCIENTIFIC INNOVATIONS
The study of the comparative role of the catecholaminergic and amino acid mediators in the mechanism of action of psychostimulants. Determining that along with the noradrenergic system of the brain, the nigrostriatal and mesolimbic dopaminergic system also plays an important role in the mechanism of action of the mezocarb (sydnocarb). Experimental confirmation that the drug creates fewer side effects associated with the dopaminergic (nigrostriatal) processes, its connection to the central DA (dopamine) system with its selective action, in other words, higher tropism compared to other dopaminergic systems. Determination of the role of pre- and postsynaptic noradrenergic and dopaminergic receptors, as well as amino acid mediators-GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) in the mechanism of action of mezocarb. In addition to the psychostimulating action of the mezocarb, its definition as a compound to improve the integrative and cognitive functions of the brain, as well as the most effective means of pharmacological correction in memory disorders arising against the background of blockade and apathy of noradrenergic processes and having a high anorexigenic effect, and its recommendation to clinical use for related purposes.

The scientific results confirming the anorexigenic action of mezocarbin compared with other anorexigenes on the background of improved mood, enhanced mnestic and cognitive functions, increased “common love for life”

ACTIVITY AT THE AZERBAIJAN MEDICAL UNIVERSITY
Ganiyev has been working at the Azerbaijan Medical University since 1981.  From 12/31/1981 to 12/31/1984, he was a graduate student in the department of pharmacology, on January 3, 1985 he was appointed senior laboratory technician in the department of pharmacology, and on 11/29/1985 he was appointed to the position of the assistant of the department. In 1988-1992 he worked as a deputy dean and dean of the faculty of pharmacy, in 1992 as an assistant professor in the department of pharmacology, in 1997 as a professor and in 2000 as a head of the department. Over the past time, much has been done to improve the educational process in the department, its integration into the European educational system and to increase the research work at the modern level. The lecture rooms are equipped with the modern teaching aids, a modern laboratory and vivarium have been created for the pharmacological research, and the students have been involved in independent experimental tests.

In 2000-2017, Musa Ganiyev wrote 14 textbooks, 13 training guides, 12 teaching aids for the different faculties of the University, and for the first time prepared and published a fundamental textbook that meets the most modern requirements and fully covers the curriculum for all faculties of the Medical University. During this time, under the guidance of Musa Ganiev, 13 dissertations of the doctor of philosophy in medicine and biology and 1 dissertation of the doctor of medical sciences were defended, 1 dissertation of the doctor of philosophy in medicine, 2 in biology and 2 dissertations of the doctor of medical sciences are executing.

PARTICIPATION IN THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES AND SYMPOSIUMS

Professor Musa Ganiev has participated in the numerous international conferences, symposia and congresses held in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ryazan, Volgograd, Novosibirsk, Tashkent, Pushino, Karaganda, Washington, Montreal, Zurich, Warsaw, Rome, Athena, Paris, Barcelona, Montenegro and in many other cities, spoke with the scientific articles on the various problems of neuro-psychopharmacology. His researches on the mechanisms of the molecular mechanism of the psychoactive substances (psychostimulants, neuroleptics) has always aroused a great interest among the leading scientists in pharmacology and were recommended as the main source in educational and scientific and research work.
